Quoted from here:

Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 uses the HTML parsing and
rendering engine from Microsoft Office Word 2007 to display HTML
message bodies. The same HTML and cascading style sheets (CSS) support
available in Word 2007 is available in Outlook 2007.

The limitations imposed by Word 2007 are described in detail in the article, but here are a few highlights:

  • no support for background images (HTML or CSS)
  • no support for forms
  • no support for Flash, or other plugins
  • no support for CSS floats
  • no support for replacing bullets with images in unordered lists
  • no support for CSS positioning
  • no support for animated GIFs

No emails should contain HTML. Many mail servers strip out the HTML and you are left with big blank spaces. Thanks to the virus writers and hackers we cannot safely let HTML through in emails. I am using Outlook 2007 and it is just like 2003 except the UI.

But I like email! That's not fair. Stupid mail servers. Stupid virus writers and hackers.
I wish I had Outlook 2007.. well not really. I use Thunderbird.. haha. I suppose you MS lover's wouldn't even know what Thunderbird is.

I know this is an old post, but:

“No emails should contain HTML. Many mail servers strip out the HTML and you are left with big blank spaces. Thanks to the virus writers and hackers we cannot safely let HTML through in emails.”

This is an absolutely ridiculous comment. HTML emails have become common place and it’s not possible to write an HTML virus or hack someones computer. The commenter does not know what they are talking about. HTML is just a markup language and MS has not removed the ability to use it they have just mangled and broken it.
