To all reading this site: I am the COO of FrontPoint Security (www.frontpointsecurity.com). We are an Alarm.com dealer providing services across the US and Canada. I can state that Dustin has no connection with either Alarm.com or FrontPoint, other than as a user, and there are enough other comments (positive and negative) on this site that the intelligent reader should not confuse this with the other sites that truly are scams and shams.

One important point to make regarding Alarm.com's patented "Pending Alarm" feature is that it renders the system virtually impossible to defeat, even when used in a self-contained panel. The whole point is that the system sends the "door open" signal on every door opening (with the Interactive level), so that if the panel is smashed and Alarm.com never receives the disarm signal or an intrusion, they assume it's an alarm event and handle it accordingly. Any competent Alarm.com dealer should know this.

Thanks to Dustin for what I consider an excellent forum to share information.

Strike that - a little more clicking and everything was revealed on Frontline's page...wow, good stuff. Still annoying that the non-security "empower" stuff is not coming through, but encouraging to see the full monty on Frontline's pages.
Many people have posted excitement about the system because Alarm.com SEEMS to have modernized an archaic & opaque market dominated by fear-inspiring ADT/Brinks/P1's. Unfortunately, Alarm.com & Frontpoint have not yet brought the price transparency we seek in this on-demand world.

Can someone, anyone, please list out prices that you paid both for equipment and monthly service?

BTW - Shout outs to both Dustin for the forum and Jiveometer Redline for calling it like it is.

I use Perl still in 2010 but I'm not reading and writing to databases. I've never had much success using dbd, dbi etc.

Having said that for most sites I now use Textpattern but am becoming a little frustrated by some aspects of Textpattern that are not answered by alternative CMSs that I've looked at. That's why I'm considering making the switch to CakePHP. I've looked at CodeIgniter but having done a couple of days research on which framework to choose I think I'm going to go with CakePHP.

Recent convert to JQuery (actually lived with my own libraries to deal with cross-browser DOM stuff.)

I had looked at prototype and scriptaculous, but it always seemed like overkill for my hokey lil' local business webpages.

What I needed was easy (and varied) access to the HTTPRequest object, and quick and fast HTML injection.

And as much as JQ is touted as a UI playground, you can't beat it's async request ease of use.

OMG! Ruby is an easy language to learn! Very elegant... I had been working with PHP for a few months now and I miss Ruby (Although the switch was very smooth). My mother tongue is Java. Ruby code is very clear and modular; Same goes with Scala... Scala + Lift --> The best, simply the best!!!!!!!!

I have been with Alarm.com for about a year now and have been very happy with their customer and technical support. Like Dustin, I researched extensively for about 4 months and have spoken with ADT, Brinks and other local security companies. I came across safemart.com and configured my own system. Through my own "Q&A", this is what I'd recommend:

1. GSM (cell-bakcup) is the more reliable way to communicate with the central office.

2. Set your alarm to have no entry delay and invest in a couple of key fobs. My house was burglarized prior to the installation of this alarm and I wanted to make breaking in as hard as I can for the burglars. I lock my security unit in a closet so I never use the keypad. When I enter or exit the house, I use my keyfob, which arms the alarm INSTANTLY! Usually there's a 15 - 30 second delay from the time you set the alarm or when you open your door, but the key fob will arm your system without any delays.

3. Invest in a battery back-up (UPS-like) system. The original backup battery that came with my system was suppose to last 24 hours on its own power. However, 6 months or so later, I noticed the battery started to hold much less charge than 24 hours, more like 10 minutes. I called alarm.com and they promptly sent me a new battery at NO CHARGE! I replaced the battery and it seems to be holding the charge, but only time will tell.

4. Regularly test your system. Set off your alarm at random times to see what the central office's response time is like. When they call you, just give them your code (make sure not to give them your distress code) and apology for the "mistake". They're very cool about it but will make sure you are who you are.

When I signed up with Alarm.com, I had a rebate from safemart.com because I purchased the system from them, and I pre-paid for the whole year so my monthly break down was around $18 per month. Keep in mind, this is also including a couple of free months, rebate and prepaid. However, it is for GSM monitoring with web controls via their https site.

All in all, I am very satisfied with alarm.com and safemart.com. I'd highly recommend both vendors!

Yea lol. These security guys that own their own business are getting their business taken by our alarms. I don't work for alarm.com but I know that for a company to use their products you have to pay their prices. Therefore most mom and pop companies won't support them because the profit margin isn't their and they don't have enough money to invest into people's homes like I do. Oh, and Casey...you really need to research alarm.com and GE security better. The newest Simon models have smash detection/tamper detection. When a system is triggered it instantly signals the monitoring and if we don't gw thr disarm code within those few seconds we start calling. If we notice our system has dropped off the cell tower then we immeadietly dispatch police. Phone line systems are never connected. Some MAY "ping" through the phone line every half hour or so, but never stay connected unlike cell primary. I make investments into families that appreciate hi-tech security and true safety. Most companies want you to sign that line for the old equipment that they have to get rid of because it's outdated. I do the marketing for GE and Alarm.com. Feel free to buy it online but either way, just get it. The future is digital and wireless. Questions can be sent to JTurner@protecthomeland.com. Dustin, I thank you for some extra business. I've set up a few systems across the nation from your thread. It's kinda nice knowing your helping people stay safer, at least I like it. Thanks again!

just started installing these Alarm.com GSM's on new and existing accounts. Have to say...so far so good. I can usually find the negative in any situation, but havnt so far with this one. Simple and strait forward, web site is easy to use, tech support (if you need them) is good...I really haven't found any problems yet!!! (just be sure to check the coverage area on their web site before you sell/buy one!!!) lol
